The eye is immediately drawn to the chest area, which is convenient since the perfume is situated there. The creators of the advert seem to be advertising the product, rather than the brand due to the models' back being turned to 'Dior' and her body is awkwardly positioned towards the product which makes the eyes turn to left rather than the brand name.
The camera angle could be mid-shot since its focusing on the chest up. The creators would use this shot to make sure that there are no distractions on what the model is wearing and by using the simple gold look, they do just that. Also, the advert focuses on the area of which you would commonly/mainly spray the perfume.
The advert appears to be set in a golden place. This was probably created through a green screen, heavy make up and a lot of photoshop. The excessive use of gold in this advertisement suggests that the product will make you feel as if you're as worthy as gold and that wherever you go, you will leave a bit of luxury behind (since there is also gold behind her, though it is slightly faded).
The font used is serif which suggests that the brand is quite traditional in itself (it was founded in the late 1940s) and so therefore the product may perhaps be dedicated for women who like a little bit of tradition in their life. These would be called 'survivors' because they like security and routine.
The fact that the colour of the font is white connotes a sense of purity and innocent and it compliments the golden background. Also, there is a heavy use of gold which suggests wealth, success and luxury. However, it does not necessarily mean that the product is only aimed for the upper class, traditional, somewhat wealthy, woman as there are other consumers that can afford it. In fact, I think the colour scheme is more to do with how the product will make you feel rather than the price of it.
The slogan used is in French 'le feminin absolu' which translates to 'the feminine absolute'. The slogan implies that the product is a 'must have' for every woman.
The model presented in the advert is someone who knows they're beautiful and is also successful and probably quite wealthy. It seems to be a positive representation of women since though she is wearing little (or nothing at all for all we know) she is not actually revealing anything in a sexual way. The fact that the model is looking up in the lens of the camera with a confident face implies that it how the perfume will make you feel.

Analysing 'The Student Magazine'.

This is the online student magazine which is clearly aimed towards students (hence the name). It appears to have a wide audience. The fact that Conor Maynard is used appears to younger people perhaps between the ages of 16 and 18. However, the content also features things that would appeal to students over the age of 18, up to 23. For example, it advertises CSI and also has an article on 'appalling conditions for apple staff' which may appeal more to older students.

The use of celebrity endorsement is an interesting feature for a student magazine since I personally wouldn't expect that. I would imagine that for a student magazine, you would put a normal student on the cover, however, the creators and editors of the magazine clearly need people to read their magazine so by using a celebrity such as Conor Maynard makes it more appealing for his fans so therefore there would be more viewers.

The colour scheme is quite simplistic and pale. The key colours are a pale grey and pale navy, which in a way reminds me of a school uniform. Its clear that this is a unisex magazine and not just dedicated to one specific gender. The fact that Conor is wearing quite a relaxed outfit may appeal to guys since 'he's one of them' and some girls may be a fan of him so therefore it would appeal for them too. However, that is not the only feature of the magazine since below we can see that it also features TV, Movies and Sport and this can appeal to both genders.

On the other hand, if this magazine was found on a news stand, it wouldn't get as much notice due to huge about of simplicity and it would be overshadowed by other magazines.

The front cover is also very neat compared to other magazines you may find. On a typical gossip magazine, you would all the latest stories scattered around, whereas in the student magazine, the main story is in a simple font, which compliments the simple colour scheme, and other stories and placed at the bottom part of the front cover.

At first I was quite confused as to why the numbers were in colours of the contents page and I found it quite childish and unprofessional. However, I then saw that they have a key which separates each section in various different colours. For example, there's music, entertainment and sport. Despite finding the rainbow colours quite tacky, I think the font makes up for it since its professional and modern, which is known as sans serif. This would appeal to younger audiences because they may find the traditional serif font too bland and simple.
The magazine clearly focuses on politics, entertainment and reviews. However, I would personally expect there to be more on education and perhaps a discussion on exams. But since it is a summer issue, the writers would be trying to distract their audience rather than remind them.

Overall, the magazine is pretty simple and organized which makes it easily readable and appealing.

Target audience and representation.
The target audience is, as mentioned above, for people in ages of 16 to roughly 22/23. I think this because the content is quite mature which may appeal to the older target audience whereas there are other things that would appeal to 16/17 year olds.
The representation is positive because it proves that not all teenagers/ young adults are into gossip of celebrities but rather the work that they do. In a way, it gets rid of the stereotype of young adults being only interesting in celebrity gossip.
There aren't any 'advice pages' in the student magazine which suggests that perhaps the writers believe the readers are mature enough to figure out there life.
The photography is very high quality and the body language of many people in the magazine is quite positive. For example, the front cover is of Conor Maynard and his boy language is quite friendly since he is standing with open arms rather than crossing his arms. This implies that he himself is a nice and friendly person and also that the magazine is the same.

Reflecting On Research (Survey).

A part of my research that worked and proved to be successful is 'what interests you the most?' and 'what attracts you to buying a magazine'. I found that these questions worked well because they helped me understand what my target market where keen on. For these two questions, I created response boxes rather than putting multiple choice. I found this a useful way of finding out what my target market want because this gave people wider options. However, some answers were heavily influenced on the examples I put.

Another part of my research that I thought worked well is for my first question, I asked them what their age was but rather putting a response box or giving them more choices, I lowered it down to my main category which was 16-18 year olds. This proved to be effective because it meant that if someone older or younger wanted to complete the survey, there would be no point due to the fact that it does not suit my target market. Also, this question was skipped by one person which meant that they were not part of the criteria though they still completed the survey.

What didn't work for my survey was that I allowed the people who answered my questions a broad answer box which meant that there was nothing specific I was looking. Though this worked for some questions, such as the ones above, it was not the case for others. For example, the question about their ethnic background, I did not put multiple choice so therefore they were able to write it in themselves. What I didn't realize at the time was people would have different responses and wouldn't write 'white', 'black' or 'Asain' ect, they would actually put their nationality. The above picture shows the problem. This would make it harder for me to lower down to ethnicity. For example, it would've been better for me to do multiple choice since collating data would make it easier for me, and answering the questions would be easier for them since they don't need to pause and think about what nationality they are. Another problem was that my questions focused more on what they read at the moment, rather than what they would want to read in a possible sixth form magazine. They focused on the magazines that they are interested. This didn't help me decide on what they would like to see in a sixth form magazine but rather a magazine they could pick off from the shelf of any news stand. Though that was the case, I did gather some research in regards to what interests my target audience. And despite the fact that putting celebrity faces over a sixth form magazine is not part of the brief, it was interesting to see what people in my age group tend to read and this helped me work out what I should put in my own magazine.

Any further research that I complete as a survey/questionnaire, I would make sure that questions that regard ethnic background will be handled with sensitivity but also a wider range of options to make sure they understand and to make it easier for them to complete since many people aren't particularly keen on writing in a survey/questionnaire as it takes up quite a bit of time. Another thing I would change is making sure I stay on track of the brief. I found that I didn't focus on what they would want on a sixth form magazine and this did not help me. I need to make sure that the questions are enjoyable for my target market to answer but also that they are useful enough for me to use further on.
